Do not expect the alien invasion

It is the time we reconsider the “Great Filter” or “Galactic Quarantine” hypothesis. It is plausible we are overthinking it and the explanation is trivial.

Also, don’t get your hopes up about them coming and enslaving or exterminating human civilization. Even though they are out there, it is the least of their concerns. But, it’s ours, for historical reasons.

How many times have you heard “Remember what happened to aboriginals in the Americas when Europeans have arrived”? The fine print is always about a superior civilization facing an inferior one. And the premise is that a less developed civilisation gets wiped out in a long run.

What has happened just a few hundred years ago when colonization was on the rise? Was it a legitimate case of two civilizations colliding? Is it a fact that the European civilization was superior? The truth is that it was the same civilization. Both sides used projectiles to kill the opponent’s warriors, had similar moral concepts and were not so distant technologically. Were natives not so unlucky with their immune system the history would have had quite a different turn.

Regardless, what that collision was about? Europeans were on a quest to find new land, more gold and extend their power. Natives were defending their culture, people and did what they could to come out alive.
